This September, Austin remained the 19th most expensive rental market in the country, as one bedroom median rents hovered at $1,120, while two bedrooms settled at $1,460. Rent prices in the city have largely plateaued over the past quarter, following a major jump to start the year. Prices for a one bedroom are up 12% year over year, one of the highest increases of any major city in the United States.
Looking at our map above, the most expensive areas to rent a home or apartment this fall include Downtown Austin ($1,870), driven by a considerable amount of new construction, and neighborhoods such as Zilker ($1,530) and West Austin ($1,490). More affordable finds are located in West University ($1,000), the areas surrounding UT Austin ($950), and Windsor Park ($900).
