The Zumper D.C. Metro Report analyzed active listings in October across 8 metro cities to show the most and least expensive cities and cities with the fastest growing rents. The state median one bedroom rent was $1,484.

Cities Ranked By Rent

The Most Expensive

–Washington, DC outpaced Bethesda this month to rank as the most expensive city to rent in the metro with one bedrooms priced at $2,290.

–Bethesda, MD fell behind D.C. and ranked as second with rent at $2,220.

–Arlington, VA followed closely behind as third with rent at $2,210.

The Least Expensive

–Frederick, MD remained the most affordable city with rent at $1,130, which is over $350 less expensive that the state median.

–Rockville, MD rent ranked as second at $1,610.

–Silver Spring, MD was third with rent at $1,730.

Growth Rate

The Fastest Growing (Y/Y%)

–Alexandria, VA had the fastest growing rent since this time last year, up 15%.

–Reston, VA rent climbed 14.7% since this time last year, making it the second fastest growing in the metro.

–Silver Spring, MD was third with rent up 10.2%.
